Bob Van Laerhoven Bio & Contact Page
I’m a fulltime professional Belgian (Flemish) author who has published more than 30 books (in print, not e-books) in the Netherlands and Belgium.
In 2007 I won the Hercule Poirot Prize for best Belgian crime novel of the year with the literary crime novel “De Wraak van Baudelaire” (Baudelaire’s Revenge).
The novel is set in Paris in 1870 during the French-Prussian war, three years after the death of the (now) world famous poet Charles Baudelaire.
“Baudelaire’s Revenge” is currently being translated into French, Italian, English and Nordic.
The genre? A cross-genre literary and at the same time « thrilling » historical novel that has been compared as having the same brooding and tense atmosphere as the world bestseller “Perfume”, although of course time-setting and story of the two novels are hugely different.
I have been described by Elisabeth Khan, living in the US and former editor-in-chief of the Belgian-American
newspaper Gazette van Detroit, as “a thriller writer for the thinking reader”. I can relate to that.
More information about me and my books is to be found on the English version of my website: www.bobvanlaerhoven.be/en
Not all books are mentioned on the English version of my website: only the ones that could stand a chance internationally.
For an English spoken trailer of “Baudelaire’s Revenge”, see www.youtube.com/bobvanlaerhoven1
The French translation “La Vengeance de Baudelaire” will be published in Canada, March 2013.
I’m currently submitting the English translation to Publishing Houses in the US and the UK.
For a writer from a small language community (Flemish speaking) it is not easy to penetrate a “big” language. It can take time before I find an English publisher.
