An Interview With Tiffany Cloud Olson, Author of “Sleeping With Dog Tags”
What is the working title of your book?
Sleeping with Dog Tags
Where did the idea come from for the book?
During my husband's 3rd (and final) deployment to war as a spec ops soldier, I turned to writing as a form of personal therapy to cope through the experience
What genre does your book fall under?
Military Bio
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Someone very neurotic with a self deprecating sense of humor who comes across as a bit of a country club brat would play me. Parker Poisey perhaps? But older. My husband would be played by the opposite--one of the characters from the TV show Duck Dynasty. He's from South Georgia and VERY rough around the edges. That's what makes our love story interesting!
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Those on the home front are at war too, but our enemies are invisible--fear, doubt, worry, lack of control...
Is your book self-published, published or represented by an agency?
Self-published @ Word Association Publishers.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
6 months--many sleepless nights during my husband's 3rd deployment to war as a spec ops soldier. I didn't sleep much, so wrote often. Irony in the title.
What other books or authors would you compare this story to within your genre?
There are few books written about war from the perspective of the spouse waiting, wondering, worrying...it's a relatively untapped area.
Who or What inspired you to write this book?
Stress inspired me. Obsessively checking the casualty report online inspired me. I wrote as personal therapy. It was a shock when it hit Amazon.com's Best Sellers List for military bio three weeks after its release and also was #3 Hot New Release (same category) only behind Dakota Meyer (Medal of Honor Recipient) and Dan Hampton (combat pilot) books. Writing has always been a form of personal
therapy.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Please see press release I sent you. It tells all about the book, my story, my husband as a wounded warrior (6 hits for country) and that I am giving a portion of proceeds to The Rolling Angels for Armed Forces. Often we forget we are still a nation at war and that there are military families making tremendous sacrifices for this nation.
