I'm an author, playwright, and a bit of a rabble-rouser. At my website and blog, you'll find information about my books but also examples of my advocacy journalism, mostly about our criminal in/justice system, and about my social justice work here in the US as well in Latin America.
My books include three short story collections, the most recent of which, CaliforniaTransit, received the Mary McCarthy Prize and was published by Sarabande Books. Radiant Hunger is my favorite of my novels, so much so that I published it myself. The Fiery Alphabet and Nobody Wakes Up Pretty
found homes with small independent presses. With Hector Aristizabal, Colombian exile and torture survivor, I collaborated on The Blessing Next to the Wound: A story of art, activism, and transformation. I'm an associated artist with his nonprofit organization, ImaginAction, dedicated to using the arts -- especially theater arts -- for peace building and community healing in the US and around the world.
